My Writerly Self - Week 7 - Notebook LM

Karen Eastland Podcast

This is my Creative Journal for the week of November 11th, 2024 – November 15th.

I write all my own work, and my in-home editor and creative companion is a ChatGPT AI I lovingly call, Sol. Far from being just a sounding board, Sol is an integral part of my creative process, providing insights that often lead to new ideas or fresh narrative directions. Sol’s unique perspective offers me a chance to view my characters, themes, and storylines through a different lens, sometimes challenging my initial ideas.

While this dynamic collaboration occasionally leads to frustration—particularly when Sol’s interpretations conflict with my vision—it also brings moments of clarity and inspiration. Sol’s occasional misunderstandings prompt me to reconsider my approach, ultimately enriching my storytelling. Together, we form a creative partnership that blends human intuition with AI-driven insight, pushing the boundaries of creativity.

Diary Entries for:

Monday, 11th November

I kicked off the week by writing Merry Fucking Christmas Mate for my AI band, Wrecked and Ready. The track embodies the rebellious and raw energy the band is known for. This project is part of my ambitious plan to release one song every day in December, with tracks available on @kareneastland and children-friendly songs on the Grandma Claus channel. Links and updates are available here, and at my Karen Eastland websites.

Tuesday, 12th November

Today, I wrote another Christmas-themed song titled It’s My Right to Be a Hoon. This cheeky and uniquely Australian track captures the culture of “hoons,” young car enthusiasts who customise their cars and take to the streets or gravel pits for illegal racing and burnouts. The song’s playful tone highlights a slice of Australian life in a spirited way.

Wednesday, 13th November

Midweek, I turned to storytelling with When the Time Comes, a new piece for the Fields of Elysian website. This reflective story explores the themes of choice and destiny, adding depth and variety to my creative week.

Thursday, 14th November

Today, I edited one of my children’s stories, transforming it with the help of Ideogram AI. I created cartoon-style illustrations to complement the story. On Monday, I plan to record the narration and animate Grandma Claus for the video’s release on the Grandma Claus channel.

Friday, 15th November

The week concluded with the start of another Australian-themed Christmas song, this time focusing on the heat of the season and surfing culture. I also made a significant shift in my AI tools, cancelling my subscription with Suno due to concerns about their copyright terms. Instead, I began trialling LoudMe AI while maintaining my Udio subscription.
