My Writerly Self - Week 4 - Notebook LM

Welcome back 🤪, this is my weekly journal. I am a Tasmanian author, and this is my Creative Journal for the week of the, 21st – 25th October. I write all my own work, and my ChatGPT AI companion, Sol, is merely a sounding board and in home editor.

The Adventures of Millie and Sandra is set in Launceston Tasmania

Monday, October 21st:
Today, I focused on setting up tools that would enhance my creative process. I installed Handbrake on my MacBook Air for video compression, successfully reducing a 600 MB .mp4 file to 40 MB without any quality loss. I shared the link to download Handbrake on my new website, My Writerly Self, which I re-launched today alongside a YouTube channel dedicated to my creative journey. The website was originally intended for a digital memoir, but I paused that project two years ago. Using Ideogram and ComfyUI, I designed new headers and a logo for the website. Weeks 1-3 of my creative journal are already live on the website and the YouTube channel (@MyWriterlySelf-h6f). I also wrote a song today, titled Ode To The Bus Driver, though it’s not yet released.

Tuesday, October 22nd:
I composed a new song called Celestial Journey (working title) and released Shines Within So Darkly on my YouTube channel (@kareneastland). In collaboration with my AI creative companion, Sol, I edited my novella Josephine and Jason. This story serves as a prelude to Josephine Marlin: A Friend in Need, revealing how Josephine ends up in the opening scene of book one. Editing with AI is an immersive process; I crafted a specific prompt to guide Sol, ensuring my style, language, and the story’s essence remained intact. I’ve made this prompt available for others who may wish to try AI-assisted editing.

Wednesday, October 23rd:
Today, I wrote character biographies for all the main and supplemental characters in Josephine and Jason, a 20-chapter novella. Using Ideogram and ComfyUI, I created character images to accompany these bios, making each one more vivid. These visuals help me stay grounded in the characters' traits and motivations, contributing to a richer editing process.

Thursday, October 24th:
I wrote the next episode of The Eye of Carly’s Hope, part of The Adventures of Millie and Sandra series. The full four-season series is available for free on writingurban.com. Additionally, I wrote and produced a song titled It Wasn’t Me, set for release in mid-November. I also planned a series of song releases, with new tracks going live every five days until November 2nd. Finally, I wrote a story called The Keylass: Who are the Keylass, and What is Their Purpose?, which will be published on the Jerrymanders website under the Sin-Eater dropdown menu on October 26th.

My AI Editing prompt:

Hi Sol,

Please edit the following story using Australian English, ensuring that my authorial voice, tone, and language are maintained. When making edits, focus on the following:

  1. Consistency of Style: Ensure that the narrative remains true to my established style—whether that’s dark, witty, poetic, or introspective. Any changes should complement, rather than alter, the essence of the original text.

  2. Clarity and Flow: Enhance sentence structure, word choice, and paragraph transitions to improve the readability and flow of the story. If certain phrases or sections feel clunky or unclear, feel free to suggest adjustments, but ensure they align with my overall tone.

  3. Character Development: Ensure that character voices remain authentic, maintaining their distinct personalities, language, and emotional depth. Any additions or changes should deepen character motivations and relationships.

  4. World-Building and Descriptions: When refining descriptions, keep the imagery vivid and immersive, but true to my original vision. Add sensory details or atmosphere only where they enhance the story’s setting without deviating from the established world.

  5. Dialogue Authenticity: Ensure dialogue sounds natural for each character, maintaining their unique mannerisms and speech patterns. Adjust pacing within conversations to match the intended tension or levity.

  6. Cohesive Themes: Retain the core themes and messages of the story. Any edits should reinforce the underlying themes without introducing new ones that could distract from the narrative’s original purpose.

Please ensure that the overall edit remains in harmony with my creative intent while refining the language and structure for a polished final draft.

Don't forget to alter the prompt specific to you.
