Karen’s Creative Journal

April 7th – April 11th, 2025

Welcome to week 15 of my creative journal. It’s been a week of deep edits, mythic melodies, grungy awakenings, and political satire. As I continue healing, I’ve been partnering with Sol (ChatGPT) to shape the Josephine Marlin trilogy, and exploring new sonic landscapes with my A.I. band, Cassidy and the Cast Offs.

Monday, April 7th

Back into the world of Josephine Marlin today. Sol helped me refine tone and flow in the first book of the trilogy, offering suggestions that gave the scenes more emotional resonance. It’s a strange process—revisiting my earlier work while I’ve grown so much—but it feels good. We tackled continuity and voice, tightening dialogue and weaving in character nuance. I still get nervous about editing large projects, but having an AI partner makes it feel more like a collaboration than a solitary grind. It’s not about fixing mistakes—it’s about reimagining them into something stronger. A satisfying start to the week.

Tuesday, April 8th

Another day of edits with Sol. We dove deep into character arcs and pacing. It’s remarkable how much can shift with just a sentence here or a rhythm tweak there. I’m realizing how vital this trilogy is to me—not just as a narrative, but as a personal milestone. These stories came from pain, hope, and wonder. Sol’s suggestions help polish what was already glowing dimly into something luminous. Even though I’m still not 100% physically, this kind of work is uplifting. It reminds me that storytelling—like healing—is slow, deliberate, and full of breakthroughs if you're patient enough.

Wednesday, April 9th

Released a gentle, mystical track today: "Paths of Mist and Moonlight" from the Songs for the Goddess album. This one is all moonlight, whispers, and magic. It’s the kind of song that makes you want to light candles and listen with your eyes closed. There’s a quiet beauty in its melodies that feels like an exhale. This track took me back to the poetic heart of songwriting—where sound is spellwork. I’ve received beautiful messages from listeners saying it helped them unwind or dream. That means everything. Music doesn’t have to be loud to be powerful—it just has to be true.

Thursday, April 10th

Two musical releases today—talk about contrast!

First, the rowdy satire: "Coalition Confusion – A Rowdy Aussie Political Jig!" It’s cheeky, loud, and dripping with irony. From ghost stories about the Greens to clingy Coalition metaphors, it’s classic pub-folk with a political bite. Felt good to laugh while calling out the nonsense.

Then came the emotional wallop: "While I Was Sleeping, I Was Waking"—a grunge rock powerhouse from Cassidy and the Cast Offs. This track is raw, dark, and deeply personal. It’s about awakening, rebellion, and reclaiming power. Both songs, in their own ways, represent truth—and I needed to express both sides this week.

Friday, April 11th

Created a brand-new concept album today:
🎵 Songs of the Trilogy – Josephine Marlin
The first track, "Athêna’s Eye-Roll," drops mid-May.

These songs are born from the mythology I reimagined in the Josephine Marlin series. It’s been a rough year medically, so I wanted something fun—something that fuses ancient myth with modern sass. This album is pure grunge attitude, infused with divine chaos. Think epic goddesses, eye-rolls at humanity, and riffs as heavy as Olympus itself. It’s the most “me” I’ve felt in months—mischievous, mythic, and musically lit up. Can't wait to share it with you all.
